‘Seismic vibration’
Installation (230x140x5cm)
Mixed media on parabolic iron antenna
Seismic communication, sometimes called vibrational communication, describes the conveying of information through seismic vibrations of the substrate. The substrate may be the earth, a plant stem or leaf, the surface of a body of water, a spider’s web
Seismic vibration is the ideas to communicate and pass on messages through resonance. When the rich countries such as America and Europe for instance, are developing their society, though industrialisation, road development and exploiting natural resources leading to pollution.
These countries are damaging their own ecosystem, emanation of toxic gases such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide from motor vehicles. But, all these activities mainly from these northern countries are definitely affecting the poorer ones. Thus, we can say that, there is a resonance from all parts of the world which affect other countries and island.
Climate ’change Global warming’ is affecting small islands such as Maldives and even Mauritius. With the rise of sea level, these will heavily impacted on these island like soil erosion and bleaching of coral reefs.
Thus, the main idea behind this theme is the resonance produced that definitely impacted on other poorer countries such as Africa.
The artwork
In the idea of environmentalism, I have used scrap parabolic antenna in reference to the way of communicating my ideas though vibration and resonance. Thus, the antenna is a symbolic of diffusing the information worldwide. 5 parabolic antennas were used, in reference to the Olympics rings representing the 5 continents. (America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia). I have make use of typography to represent the continents.
Led light was incorporated to the artwork which reveals some fluorescent painting and also to spot the main polluting countries. Painting was done using mixed media techniques, enamel painting and collage mainly.
