Federico Murgia is an Italian artist, born in Sardinia in 1989. After studying Graphic Arts at Accademia Di Belle Arti in Bologna, he graduated in an International Master (Interactive Media and Environment) at the Frank Mohr Institute, in Groningen (The Netherlands), now he lives and works in Amsterdam. The interest for music is innate in his art practice, and he connects this field with new and classical media. In fact, his body of work includes sculptures, drawings, and media installation, even though recently his research is focused in particular on sound perception represented through physical phenomena. Although his graphic background is always visible through the use of lines, signs and black and white, his passion for sounds structure is bringing him to explore colours and shapes mostly in relation with light, discovering how these elements are naturally linked. The aim of the artist is to transform the physical space in a sort of “sound immersion”, a kind of phenomenon which involves more than one sense and starting from hearing comprehends vision, tactile and body experiences. Murgia prefers to think of his work as in-between sound and visual in the gray area of cognitive perception: on this sense, he wants to create experiences rather than objects, even when he used classic media such as photography, printmaking or drawing. Lately, he’s utilizing mostly sound and light as media, but still with a timeless passion for drawing that Federico keeps caring on and relate to his entire production.
