Shalini Todi

About the artist “Life is diverse and actions are repetitive”- Todi Shalini Born in eastern part of India, brought up in western part of India and living in Ukraine; this is how Shalini’s love for art stemmed out. Untill she was 10 years old, she never knew what is scarcity of water, when her parents moved to the dry state of India she saw that the natural green trees are missing everywhere and people there wore colourful bright outfits to make up this loss. After living 16 years in this part, she then moved to Kyiv with her husband in 2007, and this was a turning point in her life. The transition between the differences of the two places was not very smooth. It took her sometime to adapt and adjust to this part of the world. During this time she started to paint her mind on any canvasses that life brought in; paper, fabric, leather ,glass, wood, ceramics… she started to paint and developed liking for a style “repetition”. Most of her artwork are finished with repetitive lines and designs. She strongly believes that every action or karma is repetitive in this world. Coming from the spiritual land-India, her thrive towards spirituality, peace and love for everyone in this world is admirable. She believes that art is a unique medium to bring together different cultures on the same platform where people can value each other’s point of view, because for her art comes within the soul and souls are always pure and honest.
